Proposal for a Psychosocial Centre at :
Kachchilaimadu Government Tamil Mixed School, Oddusudan
Kachchilaimadu GTMS is located in Oddusudan, in Mullaitivu District, close to Puthukudyirippu, which was the scene of the final battle in the war against terrorism. This area is remote and has been completely under the control of the LTTE for three decades and has seen little development. The people of this area have suffered the most during war and were only resettled in or around August 2010.
Kachchilaimadu GTMS has been in existence since 1934 and has a student population of approx 500 whose families have lost many members and are eking out a meager living on agriculture. The Principal, Mr Indran Nagenthirarajah has been promoting and supporting efforts of psychosocial activities since the days at the IDP camps and is a firm believer of the power of psychosocial activities in helping children overcome trauma, which they have experienced during the war.
