On ACT’s last visit to Pooneryn they visited and met with principals of some of the schools. Facilities are limited and most of the schools lacked basic sports equipment, musical items and books outside of the curriculum.
Next week ACT will visit all 17 schools and hand over the following items:
- Library of books with rack – over 100 books per school suited to primary or secondary with subject books and past papers
- Musical equipment for the school band, to learn instruments and local dance and festival events
- Sports goods ranging from cricket, netball, putt shot and other sports items needed for sports meets and team events
- Preschool equipment for the 10 pre schools in the area – educational toys, books, educational charts, etc.
Watch this space for updates post opening scheduled for 28th April 2011. ACT will set up and monitor art & drama camps, sports events and meets over 2011 in these schools as part of the on going monitoring of rehabilitation programmes in the North of Sri Lanka.
