Phases
Rehabilitation for Sri Lankan war survivors is a long-term project. ACT is committed to supporting Sri Lanka throughout all phases of its recovery and has a plan for the same.
Phase 1
The first Phase of ACT Lanka’s work is delivering immediate relief to those most affected by war. This consisted of fund-raising, procuring and delivering relief items directly to hospitals and doctors.
- Vavuniya Hospital, complete.
- Vavuniya and Padaviya Hospitals, complete.
- Cheddikulam and Menik Farm (IDP camps), complete.
Phase 2
Phase 2 saw the completion of emergency medical relief and improved conditions overall. ACT assessed and met the needs of the children in the camps by setting up of a community centre in Zone 5 Manik Farm.
Phase 3
Phase 3 will continue to visit and assess the needs of the medical services in the area and meet the urgent needs in the areas. ACT also assesses and supports the medical needs of smaller health facilities in the areas with larger populations thus taking the health services to the communities.
Phase 4
Phase 4 will continue to assess the health needs and help to improve the health facilities in the North & East.
ACT has also turned their focus to the rehabilitation needs to improve the well-being of the children in the North & East.
